Committed Families Only
We are a Christian based team and believe in the kid’s development more than wins and losses. The wins will come as long as the parents are willing to put in the time to get their child to practice. Most travel ball teams have been together for two, three years before they are successful. It takes practice to achieve this goal and for the kids to mesh with each other. To become basically a family who enjoys being around each other.
Romans 8:38-39
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. (NLT)

This is a long season as well as a process. I know some of the players have more experience than the others but I consider the team as a whole when we are practicing. If your son has been playing baseball for many seasons, some of the things we will do in practice seem basic such as batting off of a tee. I always coach with an end goal in mind which is to make sure your son has a great experience and ends the season with improved baseball knowledge and skills.
What I expect from my players
I expect the boys to keep a positive attitude, encourage their teammates, listen to the coaches, and to always give it their best. I also expect them to show respect towards their teammates and coaches as well as the opposing teams on and off the field. Regardless of how the other team may act, Crossroads players should always conduct themselves with class.
As far as their spot in the batting lineup or in the field, ability is not the only factor. I am a big believer in rewarding players on their effort, not just ability alone. For example, a boy who has great skills but hardly shows up for practice or when they do, they are a distraction to their teammates, will not be rewarded. This leads to attendance at practice, which is a must. I understand issues come up that we have no control over but missing practice for no apparent reason or not letting us know that you cannot make it only makes it harder on the player and the cohesiveness of the team. I like to plan my practices and if I know a player will not be there, I can make adjustments.
In addition, the lineup is not etched in stone. During the season, the boys have their ups and downs. As they do, they might move up and down the batting order as well.
The outfield is not a curse!
Do the names Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Roberto Clemente, Willie Mays, and Duke Snyder sound familiar? They played the outfield and it didn’t seem like a curse to them on the way to Cooperstown. A strong outfield is just as important as a strong infield and players are there because they make up a strong defense. As coaches, we want to work with them to make them the best outfielders they can be. We don’t park them out there and forget about them, that’s for sure. I’m sure Braves superstar and right fielder Jeff Franceour isn’t complaining about where he’s playing.
Extra Help
If your son wants some extra practice or wants to work on his pitching, hitting, or fielding, let me know. I am always able to make the time either before or after practice for any player who has that drive to be better

No news is good news in my book so if it is raining or it appears that stormy weather is on the way and you do not hear from me, assume we are practicing or the game is on. I will call and e-mail to let you know if a game/practice has been canceled.
